Metal Gear voice actor David Hayter associates the Year of the Snake with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s upcoming release
To get fans hyped for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, longtime Solid Snake and Big Boss voice actor David Hayter took to social media to remind fans that 2025 is also the Lunar Year of the Wood Snake. In a stroke of fortuitous circumstance, it is fitting that the Lunar Year bears the codename of some of the franchise’s main protagonists.
This isn’t the first time the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake was associated with the Year of the Snake. On December 31, 2024, Konami posted a video in which Taiko performers and a calligraphy artist celebrated the upcoming Lunar Year at the Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine in Tokyo, Japan. Featuring a large, stylized kanji of the word “snake,” the video heralded the coming year and the planned release window for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Hayter made a follow-up post, linking journalism website WBUR’s 2025 predictions for the video game industry. In the post, Hayter adds a photo of Naked Snake from Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater with the hashtag “#YearOfTheSnake”. While the game is not mentioned in the article, Hayter took this chance to remind people of his involvement with the project.
Even though David Hayter is reprising the role of his least-favorite Snake, he seems elated about returning to the Metal Gear franchise. Hayter’s last tenure as either of the Snakes was in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which was released in 2018. Metal Gear Solid Delta will feature new voice-over work by Hayter and some of the original voice cast in addition to the lines recorded for 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X|S.
