Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater will have new dialogue, voice actors confirm

In part 3 of Konami’s METAL GEAR SOLID: Legacy video series, voice actors David Hayter, Lori Alan, and the now-revealed Jodi Benson talk about their work on the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and the upcoming Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater. While Konami previously stated that the remake will be using the original’s voice-over work, the recently released video reveals that new dialogue is being recorded to enhance the experience.

Host David Hayter (best known for being the longtime English voice actor for Snake) mentions that while the lion’s share of the voice-over work in Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater is from the original 2004 release, he and a number of the original English voice actors went back into the recording booth to flesh out their characters.

Jodi Benson (above), who plays EVA, was originally credited as “Suzetta Miñet” in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as she was well-known at the time for family-friendly projects, such as voicing Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Lori Alan and Jodi Benson, who provide the English voices for The Boss and EVA respectively, say that the 20-year gap spent away from their characters didn’t affect their performances. If anything, it gave them more time to reflect on their characters’ personalities and relationships. “They’ve been marinating in their love affairs, fights, and relationships, so it literally takes no time to drop into those characters,” says Alan. Benson backs up Alan’s statement by saying that the 20 years added to their history with their characters. “It made it easier to dive back into the characters and layer on top of our original performances.”

While the METAL GEAR SOLID: Legacy video series serves as Konami’s official statement that new voice-over work is being added to Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater, it was Hayter himself who hinted at the new additions just a month prior. In an X post dated October 4, 2024, Hayter says that he was playing a role he hadn’t played in a long time. A follow-up post by Hayter shows a GIF of Snake in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which all but confirmed he would be returning as Snake for the remake.

While classic elements like voice-over work, Easter eggs, and gimmicks are appreciated, fans of the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be delighted that there are new things in store for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
