Kirby Air Riders Amiibo figures’ size and detail might explain their hefty price tag

Is the pricing of the Kirby Air Riders Amiibo figures justified? We decided take a look at Nintendo's newly announced collectibles.

Kirby Air Riders has fans divided right now. While most seem pumped for a new Masahiro Sakurai-directed Kirby game, some are criticizing Nintendo’s pricing of the upcoming Kirby Amiibo figures, which are currently priced at $49.99 USD.

To be fair, both the new Kirby & Warp Star and Bandana Waddle Dee & Winged Star Amiibo figures can be classified as two figures in one. The riders and Air Ride machines are separate and can be interchanged with one another. When scanned on a Switch 2, different figure configurations will create custom in-game rider-Air Ride machine combinations. These will be treated as Figure Players (FPs), of which the rider and Air Ride machine can be trained and leveled up as they compete in races.

Another point of contention is their size. To put things into perspective, the Kirby Amiibo figures in the Super Smash Bros. and Kirby series are roughly the same size (the latter of which is slightly bigger due to Kirby resting on a star). When put together side by side, the Kirby & Warp Star Amiibo figure is much larger than either of the previous two.

On the other hand, there isn’t much you can do to make a pink blob like Kirby look more intricate. While the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 figures of Mario and Rosalina come with a $39.99 USD price tag ($10 USD less than the Kirby Air Riders figures), they might be justified because of their size and attention to detail.

Nintendo has stated that future Kirby Air Riders Amiibo updates are on the way. Given the number of riders and Air Ride machines that have already been announced for Kirby Air Riders, more Amiibo figures for the game may be available in the future. Thankfully, Kirby’s allies and enemies have more intricate designs, which might hopefully offset their figures’ price tags.
