Fanza Doujin, Digital Commerce’s online service hosting adult illustrations and manga, has recently announced that it will be implementing stricter measures in order to limit the number of AI-generated works distributed on the platform.
As reported by Otaku Soken, these measures will be gradually implemented starting mid-November, and are supposed to address the overwhelming number of AI-generated illustrations and comics that are being uploaded to the platform as of late. As all works, regardless of how they were made, need to pass a quality check before launching on Fanza’s store, the huge influx of AI-generated images has been placing a heavy burden on the review process.
As per the soon-to-be implemented rules, every doujin circle owner will be restricted to submitting only three AI-generated or partially AI-generated works per month, regardless of genre. Furthermore, it will be forbidden for the same person to create multiple doujin circles in order to bypass this rule. These restrictions will also apply to past works that have already been registered, meaning that creators will have to remove them in case their overall AI-generated portfolio exceeds the allowed threshold.
On a related note, this is not the first time Fanza has had to address the issue of AI-generated art on the platform. In 2022, it became mandatory for users selling AI-generated content to tag it as such, as to clearly distinguish it from non-AI content. As reported by ITMedia News, in June this year, Fanza announced that AI-generated works would be removed from its top page, and that uploaders will have to classify them into more detailed categories (AI-generated, partially AI-generated and AI-assisted). Furthermore, a filter was added to completely remove works involving AI from customers’ search results in case they only want to see human-made art.
