Lowiro, the UK-based studio behind the popular rhythm game Arcaea, has announced that its new title, In Falsus, is set for a September 9 release this year. The story-driven rhythm game blends mouse and keyboard rhythm gameplay, a visual novel-style narrative, and card crafting mechanics.
Set in a fictional near-future, In Falsus tells the stories of five female protagonists. Each girl has her own loves, fears, desires, and in-game stats that you discover as you progress the story, with your decisions branching off into different routes. No matter the route, all of them follow an interconnected narrative that centers on the girls joining a strange government program only for them to discover an unknown side to their reality. The game features interface and subtitle support for English, Japanese, as well as Simplified and Traditional Chinese, with full Japanese voice acting.
The rhythm gameplay involves pressing incoming notes (tied to the Shift, A, S, D, F, and Spacebar keys by default) and sliding your mouse to the beat. In Falsus has over 70 tracks in its launch library, 40 of which are original compositions from well-known Japanese indie artists. A multitude of musical genres and styles are available, with certain songs being tied to key moments in the story.
Completing songs awards you with Iota, which allows you to craft cards. The cards can be slotted into the protagonists’ Blueprints, which are grid systems that feature various stat boosts and bonuses. You can equip up to five cards for each song, which opens up the way for unique loadouts that match the challenges you face and your personal playstyle.
In Falsus is set to release on September 9 for Windows (Steam). A free demo is available.
