Genshin Impact will no longer use X (Twitter) for in-game event announcements

The official X account for miHoYo’s Genshin Impact announced that updates about in-game events and their descriptions will no longer be posted outside of HoYoLAB, the official community forum for HoYoverse games. The announcement was made to Japanese players via X on November 12 and to English-speaking players on November 8.

According to miHoYo, announcements related to game events in Genshin Impact Version 5.2, which launches on November 20, will be exclusive to HoYoLAB’s Genshin Impact Channel. No official reason was given for the sudden change, but the announcement has sparked speculation that it could be related to X and its recent changes in policy. For example, as of November 15, 2024, X allows third parties to use all public data on the platform to train artificial intelligence models.

Since Twitter’s rebranding last year, a number of game companies have changed their relationship with the platform. Azur Lane, Blue Archive and Arknights publisher Yostar discontinued account binding on X for some of its titles, and Nintendo ended Switch integration
