Game Freak announces new magical girl mobile game helmed by Pokémon director Shigeru Ohmori

Ame Nochi Hare Onna is scheduled to release this winter in Japan for mobile.

Game Freak has announced Ame Nochi Hare Onna, a free-to-play title scheduled to release this winter for iOS and Android (Japan only at the time of writing). A new trailer showcases the anime-style visuals and characters.

Co-developed by CHRONOGATE, this new title is set in modern-day Japan, depicting magical girls called Hare Onna (“Sunshine Girls”) who transform weather into magic to lift people’s spirits. Together with their cute cloud-themed partners Kumorin, their mission is to bring clear skies and brighten up Japan.

According to the announcement, the game links gameplay to real-world weather data, so the experience will be closely tied to players’ everyday lives. The girls appear to hail from different regions of Japan, with the newly introduced Himawari representing Kanto.

Of note, Ame Nochi Hare Onna is directed and producer by Shigeru Omori, the primary director of the Pokémon series since 2014’s Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Ame Nochi Hare Onna is scheduled to release this winter for iOS and Android. Further information about the game is planned to be revealed during an official livestream held on September 14, 2026, at 19:00 JST.
