Earth Defense Force 6 launches July 25, bringing collab with VTubers Takanashi Kiara, Gawr Gura and IRyS
Earth Defense Force 6, the latest installment of D3 Publisher and Sandlot’s iconic action-shooter series, will launch on July 25 for the PS4, PS5 and PC (Steam) for $59.99 for the Standard Edition, and $89.99 for the Deluxe Edition. Pre-orders are currently open on the PlayStation Store, while pre-orders on Steam will be available starting June.
Set in the year 2027, Earth Defense Force 6 is the direct sequel to Earth Defense Force 5. Back in 2024, humanity had won against the unknown invaders known as The Primers, restoring peace on Earth. However, as a result of the conflict, 90 percent of the population has been wiped out, bringing human civilization to the brink of collapse. Furthermore, Earth’s safety is once again at risk, with the number of invasive organisms continuing to rise. EDF6 sees the Earth Defense Force called upon yet again to protect the planet from the growingly hostile alien colonists left behind by The Primers. Adding to the intrigue is a mysterious ring-shaped object in the sky, the true purpose of which the EDF is tasked with determining.
Much like its predecessor, Earth Defense Force 6 is a third-person shooter in which you clear missions while fighting off waves of giant alien monstrosities. The story picks up right where EDF5 left off while introducing new mechanics. The existing Ranger, Air Raider, Wing Diver and Fencer classes are upgraded with new abilities, and the player will be able to choose from a wide variety of new weapons. The sequel will include hundreds of new missions to challenge and will be equipped with a two-player split-screen mode, as well as an online co-op mode for up to four players.
Earth Defense Force 6’s hilarious release date trailer (seen above) inherits the franchise’s goofy tradition, promising the first 100 soldiers who enlist with the EDF a “juicy steak.” The trailer also reveals a collaboration with VTubers Takanashi Kiara, Gawr Gura and IRyS. Three decoys of them are available as a perk for North American and EU users who pre-order or buy the game within five months after launch. Pre-order rewards also include an exclusive set of auxiliary equipment for Wing Divers called the “Reverse Core Type-N.” Additionally, PlayStation pre-orders will include a metal-coated version of the “Nix” combat frame for the Standard Edition and a specially painted combat vehicle for the Deluxe Edition.
