Koei Tecmo’s studio Omega Force released Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered on October 1. The new title brings back one of the series’ most popular entries (alongside its Xtreme Legends expansion) with overhauled graphics, new gameplay mechanics, extra scenarios, and plans for future online support.
In an interview with 4Gamer commemorating the remaster’s launch, Omega Force boss and Dynasty Warriors series producer Tomohiko Sho talked about the possibilities of other entries getting their own modern reboots in the future. According to Sho, if the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster performs well, this will certainly increase the chances of other games in the series, particularly those not playable on Steam, being considered for a remaster.
On the other hand, when it comes to his personal involvement, Sho says he would rather not commit to more remasters. “It virtually comes down to rebuilding everything, and even while working on this title, I sometimes found myself thinking, Why am I remaking something I already made myself?”

Sho has been involved in the Dynasty Warriors series since 2002’s Dynasty Warriors 2 as a game designer, director and producer. Now that he’s in his fifties, he says he often wonders how many more games he can make before retiring. Therefore, he naturally finds himself wanting to work on new projects, whether they be brand-new games or sequels. Still, he is aware of players’ requests for past games to be revived and wants to respond to them, which is why he is considering having someone replace him to lead future potential projects.
According to Sho, releasing the Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster took years and involved much difficulty, which probably has a lot to do with the fact that the game is just shy of being a remake. The graphics and character models are remade in UE5, the combat system has been expanded with new defensive mechanics and a Weapon Synthesis feature, the sub-officer system has been brought over from more recent Warrior titles, and the developers have even announced plans to add online support for two-player modes post-launch. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that Sho is concerned about his remaining active years in the industry being occupied by remaster projects of his past work.
Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered is out now for PC (Steam), PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X❘S.
