Following the Nintendo Direct trailer that revealed Deltarune Chapter 5 will be releasing on June 24, creator Toby Fox released a quick newsletter regarding its contents, as well as progress updates on chapters 6 and 7 (there’s some number meme humor for you there).
In contrast to the Deltarune Chapters 1-4 announce trailer, which showed several scenes from the then-unreleased chapters, Fox wanted Chapter 5’s most exciting moments to be omitted from the new trailer. However, he did mention that Chapter 5 would be more light-hearted, allowing players to “have one more fun adventure” before diving back into the darkness that Chapter 4’s cliffhanger hinted at. This has left fans quite concerned about what awaits in Deltarune’s last two chapters.
Moving on to Chapter 6, Fox revealed that development is going well, with cutscenes and NPC interaction work progressing smoothly. All of the basic gimmicks (including thematic climbing, puzzles, and the like) have been created, with a few more rooms needed to finalize their application. Normal enemy and bullet combat is mostly done, and the final boss only needs some bullet work before completion. If previous Deltarune final bosses are any indication, fans can expect Chapter 6’s finale to be a bullet hell doozy.
According to Fox, Chapter 6 is much easier to make than the other chapters, making development work progress quite quickly. As such, he wouldn’t be surprised if some members started working on Deltarune’s seventh and final chapter by the end of the year.
Chapter 5 is set to release on June 24 as a free update for Deltarune, which is available on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, macOS and Windows (Steam), and PlayStation 4 and 5.
