Cygames acquires Japanese animation, VFX, and motion capture company credited on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Ninja Gaiden 4 

Umamusume: Pretty Derby and Granblue Fantasy developer Cygames has announced the acquisition of domestic 3DCG and VFX company Griot Groove.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby and Granblue Fantasy developer Cygames has announced the acquisition of domestic 3DCG and VFX company Griot Groove, effective May 1, 2026. Cygames has acquired all of the latter’s shares, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. 

With a 31-year history and around 100 employees, Griot Groove is a company with experience across film, video games and commercial production, specializing in realistic modelling and animation. It’s also home to one of Japan’s leading motion capture studios, and some of its clients in the game industry include Square Enix, Sega, Koei Tecmo and SIE. Recent titles Griot Groove is credited on include Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth, Kirby Air Riders, Ninja Gaiden 4, Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6. 

Through the acquisition of Griot Groove, Cygames is looking to “further improve the quality of its video content and increase efficiency in video production.”
