South Korean studio Moka Sphere has released a free demo for its upcoming asymmetrical multiplayer “horror” title, Yandere Virus. Developed alongside SCON, the game is set to release for Windows (Steam) on August 19.
Yandere Virus is a multiplayer title in a similar vein to Dead by Daylight and Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. Those infected with the titular Yandere Virus have to chase and knock out the regular humans. With limited health points and a regenerating stamina meter, the humans must navigate the map’s dangers (which include killer plants) and collect Platonic Pumpkins to create a cure for the infected.

While Yandere Virus’s level design is dark, decrepit, and more like what you would usually see in a horror game, the character designs and lore draw inspiration from anime and otaku culture (the term “yandere” referring to the popular trope of characters who appear cute and harmless but are dangerously obsessed with their love interest, to the point of violence).
Aside from the core game mode where one yandere chases after three players, another variation where more than one yandere is present can be seen in the announcement trailer. Yandere Virus can be played solo or with others via online co-op. If you think the gameplay will be too quiet, proximity chat ensures that you can hear everyone’s screams as they run for dear life.
With over 10,000 Steam Wishlists, Yandere Virus is set to release on August 19 for Windows (Steam).
