As reported by GameBiz, Capcom’s shares hit a new year-to-date high on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on September 7. The rise appears to reflect the market’s positive response to Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
The new entry in Capcom’s classic sword action series released on September 4, and sold over 1 million units worldwide within 24 hours (as announced by Capcom today). Launching amidst high praise from reviewers and an 85% Metacritic score, Onimusha: Way of the Sword quickly rose to the top of Steam’s global top sellers (in Japan, it occupied the spot for three days), and saw over 85 thousand concurrent players on the platform.
Alongside the game’s upgraded action, technology and graphics, Capcom attributes the success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword to its pre-launch marketing initiatives – including multiple demo releases and hands-on demo events – which helped boost the game’s visibility leading up to launch.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is available for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store), Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
