Beast of Reincarnation reached far more players than the developers expected. Director cites strong physical PS5 sales and Xbox Game Pass availability

The dev team still has plenty of updates planned to address the game's issues.

Following the launch of Game Freak’s brand-new action RPG Beast of Reincarnation in August, game director and scenario writer Kota Furushima recently talked to Famitsu about the game’s reception and future roadmap.

While Beast of Reincarnation was met with somewhat mixed critical reception, according to Furushima, it has been reaching many players worldwide through Xbox Game Pass, while sales of the physical PS5 edition have also been strong. The director says “the game was played by far more people than imagined” considering it’s a completely new IP, though the unexpected numbers also made sorting through feedback more demanding than the team had anticipated.

While he’s happy about the reception, Furushima says he’s very much aware of criticism regarding Beast of Reincarnation’s playability, controls, pacing and tutorials. There’s already been a number of updates since launch to address complaints from players, but it seems the development team plans to continue rolling out improvements to address all the remaining issues.

In the immediate future, the team is considering expanding the ability to skip events and cutscenes. On the action side, future improvements will address the responsiveness of healing (Stimpacks), as well as revisit early-game tutorials, progression flow, and the UI among other elements. “We’ll announce specific release timings once they’ve been finalized, but we’re moving forward with development so that we can deliver these improvements as quickly as possible,” the director said.

To improve the game, the developers are keeping track of a wide range of sources, including customer support channels and social media, as well as online gameplay videos and streams.

Beast of Reincarnation is available for PC (Steam/Microsoft Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
