Shochiku Games has revealed that the 3D roguelite action game Eternal Palace Sakura will release on November 5 for Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam). A crowdfunding campaign has simultaneously launched alongside the release date announcement.
Developed by Japanese indie game circle Denneko Yuugi, Eternal Palace Sakura follows Retla, a cat-eared dual-wielding fighter who navigates an ever-changing Japanese-style palace in search of a divine relic. The areas you visit change with each run, as do the treasures, challenges, and secrets you encounter.
Retla’s weapons of choice are her dual blades, which let her pull off flashy combos and evade with high-speed movements. As you progress, you’ll unlock new abilities, weapons, and upgrades that you can carry into succeeding runs to fine-tune your playstyle.
Eternal Palace Sakura’s free demo includes a basic tutorial that introduces you to the game’s combat system. Several unique enemies allow you to test your mettle, while powerful items enhance your abilities and provide buffs. A boss fight is also included in the final level. The latest iteration of the demo includes enhanced visuals and an improved UI design, more precise hit reactions, and new content.
According to the devs, the full release will include over 20 enemy characters (including new “Oni”-type opponents), over 50 enhancement items, random event rooms, and an endless mode with infinite levels to clear.
The Eternal Palace Sakura crowdfunding campaign on Campfire currently has 119,300 JPY funded out of its 500,000 JPY goal, with the money going to the game’s production and shipping of supporter goods. Supporters will receive game-related merchandise depending on their chosen tier, including Steam download keys that let you play ahead of release, a mention in the game’s credits, and a personalized voice message from Retla’s Japanese voice actress. The campaign runs until November 19.
Eternal Palace Sakura is set to release on November 5 for Nintendo Switch and Windows (Steam). A free demo is available on Steam.
