Palworld: Depresso is becoming everyone’s spirit Pal 

Depresso is a Pal that’s been particularly popular among Palworld players, but for all the unexpected reasons. An utterly unimpressed, continuously grumpy expression, paired with a complete lack of motivation for work are what make Depressos stand out. Surprisingly, the official description reveals that Depressos are a rather kindhearted species. 

Depresso is a Dark element Pal that only appears at night, and it is among the first Pal species you are likely to come across and capture when you start the game. Despite not being particularly powerful in any respect, Depressos have grown very popular among players worldwide for their comically disgruntled appearance and relatable attitude to life. 

Like other Dark elemental types, Depressos look anything but friendly, with their eyes perpetually forming an angry glare. But recently, they’ve been especially popular for the lack of effort they put into labor – Depressos have a natural aptitude for mining, but when put to the task, they barely seem to move their pickaxe. The comparison to a hard-working Cattiva seen below really puts things into perspective. 

At the same time, the Depresso’s lazy-looking movements should not be taken at face value, as its actual work efficiency seems to be the same as  other Pals with a level 1 mining aptitude. Perhaps Depresso’s talent lies in doing less to achieve more.  

Incidentally, Depressos have the Caffeine Inoculation Partner Skill (they were named after the “more espresso, less depresso” meme). When activated, this skill causes the Depresso to ingest a large amount of energy drinks, which drastically increases its movement speed for a limited time. It seems Depressos can only work hard when on a Caffeine high, which sounds painfully familiar.  

According to their Paldeck Entry, Depressos tend to have few friends due to their grouchy expressions, even though they are actually kindhearted. They can even be spotted feeding Vixy who have strayed from their packs, which suggests they have a hidden compassionate nature. 

All of this has likely contributed to Depressos being one of the most popular choices for memes and fanart, with some even featuring anthropomorphized/human versions of the Pal.
