Danganronpa creator teases “insane” new game, possibly collab with Zero Escape writer

Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator of Danganronpa, made a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account that has given fans of his work a lot to be excited about. Kodaka shared how he is fervently preoccupied with working on a new game, which is unlike any of his previous projects. Furthermore, the hashtags he used suggest that he could be talking about Extreme x Despair, the long-awaited collaboration with Zero Escape writer Kotaro Uchikoshi.

Post translation: The game; scenario that I’m working on with all my might at the moment is so insane and so interesting that I keep doing nothing but work. Even when I run into hardship or trouble, I keep working on the scenario rather than relaxing or resting. This might be the first time I’ve been so obsessed with a project. I wonder if I’ll get burned out from this. Anyhow, the announcement and release date are not far off in the future, so look forward to it. Also, I want you to root for me cause I’m tired.

Finishing the account of his apparently manic preoccupation with the new project, Kodaka uses the two hashtags #極限 (en: extreme) and #絶望 (en: despair). Many have taken this as a sign that Kodaka is talking about the previously teased Extreme x Despair collaboration project with Kotaro Uchikoshi. The joint game with the Zero Escape writer was first unveiled back in 2018, following the establishment of Too Kyo Games.

Too Kyo Games was founded by Kodaka and other former employees of Spike Chunsoft, including Uchikoshi and the Danganronpa illustrator Rui Komatsuzaki. Their joint title Extreme x Despair has been heavily anticipated ever since it was first revealed, with Danganronpa and Zero Escape fans making various hypotheses on what the game will be about. Going by Kodaka’s recent X update, it might not be long before we get to find out more.
