Attack on Titan: Eren’s Titan roar is not edited – it’s pure Yuki Kaji

A recent live video of Yuki Kaji, the voice actor of Eren Jaeger in Attack on Titan, has gone viral on social media as users realize the roar of Eren’s Titan form is neither heavily edited nor performed by another voice actor, but rather just Kaji’s voice acting.

Post translation: Oh, so Eren’s titan form’s roar wasn’t edited… (utter shock)

The clip in question originates from a video of Kaji voice acting live in front of an audience at the 2023 Comic Expo in Taiwan. At the crowd’s request, he performs Eren’s signature scream, followed by cheers. Then, he turns his back to the audience and lets out a marvelous roar – the roar of the Attack Titan, Eren Jaeger’s titan form. He comments, “I’ve never done this even in Japan,” presumably referring to performing the roar in front of a live audience.

Eren Jaeger's titan form

Kaji is well known for his skilled and emotional voice acting, and his role as Eren Jaeger has earned him multiple Best Voice Actor awards; but as the Attack Titan’s inhuman roar is particularly distant from any voice he has produced so far, most viewers assumed it was a heavily distorted or modified recording. However, the voice actor has managed to surprise fans once again with his live demonstration of Eren’s titan roar, which sounds incredibly close to what can be heard in the anime.

The above-mentioned clip of Kaji has been making the rounds on social media among Japanese and overseas fans alike, with users expressing awe at his skills. At a past event, Kaji has commented that voice acting roles which involve a lot of screaming (such as his roles in Attack on Titan and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure) are the toughest on his throat and have the biggest effect on him, which is why he takes particular care when performing them.
