Dead or Alive creator involved in Tekken 8 development
Yohei Shimbori, known as the creator of Koei Tecmo’s Dead or Alive series, revealed that he is currently affiliated with Bandai Namco Studios and participating in the development of Tekken 8.
Shimbori had been involved with the Dead or Alive and Dead or Alive Xtreme series for 16 years as a producer and director. On March 31, 2021, he announced his departure from Koei Tecmo, which sparked the public’s interest in his future activities.
After leaving Koei Tecmo, Shimbori remained active on social media, where he assured followers that he was “alive” and focusing on work in his new position. After keeping the details under wraps for a long time, he finally announced on December 18 that he had been “given the ok from the company” to reveal that he is currently affiliated with Bandai Namco Studios, specifically Tekken 8.
Shimbori’s position is likely one that allows him to make use of the know-how and experience gained from working on the Dead or Alive series, but he does not specify his exact role and describes his involvement in Tekken 8 as “supporting development in various ways” (in his Japanese post).
Tekken 8 is scheduled to be released on January 26 for the PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PS5 demo is currently available, and the PC and Xbox Series X| demos will launch on December 21.
