Nintendo Switch slapping game reveals “brass knuckle” Joy-con attachments

The developers of “the slapping game” Rose and Camellia have revealed a rather unique piece of gaming merch – a set of brass knuckle attachments for the Joy-Con. The official X/Twitter post introducing the quirky novelty item has since gone viral among the Japanese community, though it is not for sale as of yet.

Post translation: There’s this company we’ve been planning merchandise with called Answer. This is our first item. Slaps become a punch. Are there any who would desire such an item?

Rose and Camellia is an action game in which you, a common-blooded member of the aristocratic Tsubakikoji family, must fight your way through a familial struggle for wealth and power. Gameplay consists of intense “slapping duels” among an all-female cast. The recently released Nintendo Switch version of the game allows you to enjoy particularly immersive slap battles as it can be played by actually performing slapping actions in real life while holding the Joy-Con.

On October 24, the official Rose and Camellia X/Twitter account revealed their collaboration with the video game peripheral device developer Answer – a set of blue and red colored brass knuckle-shaped attachments for the Joy-Con. The blue piece has the words “Camellia” and “For ladies only” written on it in Japanese, while the red piece reads “Rose” and “For nobles only.”

According to GameSpark, the attachments can be affixed to the Joy-Con directly, in the same way as Joy-Con straps. In a practical sense, the easy-to-grip attachment is very useful for the game, given the nature of the movements you have to make while playing it, but the all too familiar melee-weapon shape is definitely the most iconic thing about it.

Post translation: So we’re going American style. Understood.

That said, the post has been overwhelmed with excited reactions, and the irony of a game about slapping suddenly coming out with an item very much made for punching has also succeeded in grabbing everyone’s attention, with users joking about the game “switching to American style” and mentioning the accessory’s potential in games such as FitBoxing.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether the brass knuckles will be released as an actual product, but the original post by the official Rose and Camellia does seem to be gauging peoples’ interest.
