The Nintendo Switch dark horse ”Suika Game” finally gets US release

Aladdin X released their viral puzzle game Suika Game internationally on October 20. As of this writing, the game has been released for the United States as well as the North, Central, and South American regions.

Suika Game is a puzzle game that consists of stacking various fruits in a box so that they do not cross the line at the top of the field. Fruits of the same kind can be combined to evolve into a larger fruit, which multiplies your score. The fruit grows in size in the order of cherry, strawberry, grape, dekopon, persimmon, apple, pear, peach, pineapple, and the largest fruit one can achieve is the watermelon. The goal of the game is to aim for the highest possible score before its game over.

The game was originally created as a built-in application for a projector by Aladdin X, but was released for the Nintendo Switch in Japan in December 2021. Although the game did not attract much attention at first, it exploded in popularity just recently, around September of this year, when Japanese influencers and let’s play streamers caught wind of it. The simple yet addictive gameplay quickly had it making rounds all over the community, and the game ranked No. 1 on the Nintendo eShop’s downloadable software for days, reaching 1 million downloads by October 5.

*After Suika Game achieved 1 million downloads, Nintendo featured the game.

Until now, Suika game has been Japan-exclusive, so those trying to acquire the game outside of Japan had to go through the hassle of creating a Japanese account and whatnot, but starting October 20, the game was made available overseas as well.

Aladdin X has not made any announcements so far, but it seems certain that the game is not a copy (as is the case with many mobile versions), but an official release by the developer. It may be that Aladdin X decided to skip formalities and release the game quickly while it’s still growing in popularity. The game is listed as “Suika Game” on the Nintendo eShop, but on the Nintendo Switch home screen, it appears as “Watermelon Game,” including the icon. On the other hand, the game itself is still available only in the Japanese language.

Suika game is available for the Nintendo Switch.
