Dance Dance Revolution Classic Mini – miniature console that reproduces the DDR arcade unit at 1/5th scale announced

Zuiki Inc. Announced the rhythm game Dance Dance Revolution Classic Mini on October 3. The release date and price are yet to be revealed, and crowdfunding is planned to start from October 10.

The Dance Dance Revolution Classic Mini is a mini game console that reproduces Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution arcade game unit at 1/5th size. Measuring 32.5 cm (W) x 35.7 cm (D) x 39.9 cm (H), it is equipped with a 5-inch (1024 x 768) LCD monitor and can output video and audio to a TV or other device via an HDMI port.

The music in the game will consist mainly of famous songs from the first to third generation of Dance Dance Revolution. The original arcade unit consists of a dance platform and cabinet, and the game is played by stepping on the arrow buttons on the dance platform with one’s feet, but in the mini version, players will be able to operate the game using their hands, using a handheld stage unit, much like a gamepad. A 2-player mode will also be available. It will also be possible to connect a Dance Dance Revolution dance pad, which allows users to play by stepping on the stage unit with their feet, just like in the arcade version.

The cabinet of the arcade unit is said to have been recreated down to the smallest detail, including the light effects that glow in time with the music. There are also stickers that can be used to recreate the designs of the first to third generation Dance Dance Revolution arcade machines.  In addition, the stage unit can be connected to a PC and used as a controller for Dance Dance Revolution Grand Prix, which is available on Konaste.

Zuiki, the developer of this product, are known for their many mini versions of game consoles, including the Nintendo Classic Mini NES and SNES, TurboGrafx-16 Mini, Astro City Mini, SEGA Genesis Mini 2, and X68000 Z. For the Dance Dance Revolution Classic Mini, production has been decided by contract with Konami Amusement. The developer describes the project as a challenge to create a miniature version of the original Dance Dance Revolution while incorporating new technology and design and maintaining the charm of the original.
