Fate/stay night author Kinoko Nasu talks about health issues and recovery from asthma 

Kinoko Nasu, co-founder of the Japanese video game company TYPE-MOON, revealed his medical condition in an entry on his blog “The Bamboo Broom Diary” on August 11. According to the blog entry, the author has been suffering from asthma since the end of January 2023. He is now close to making a full recovery, after undergoing medical treatment for a significant period of time.

Kinoko Nasu is a scenario writer and creator for TYPE-MOON, a Japanese developer known for their visual novel games. His representative works include novels/visual novel games such as Tsukihime, The Garden of Sinners and Fate/stay night. The works of Kinoko Nasu are characterized by the specific setting and worldview shared by a majority of the titles. 

In recent years, Kinoko Nasu has been involved in the composition, screenplay and supervision of Fate/Grand Order. The scenarios of several main story chapters and some event stories of the game written by Nasu are particularly popular among fans. He is also supervising Fate/Samurai Remnant by Koei Tecmo, which is scheduled for release on September 28. As the creator of the Fate series, Kinoko Nasu continues to be active at the forefront of the industry.

In an update on his Bamboo Broom Diary, the author revealed that he has been suffering from asthma. According to the August 11 entry of the blog, Kinoko Nasu’s health took a turn for the worse right after FGO Lostbelt 7, Part 2 was released at the end of January 2023. The author mentions initially thinking it was just a cold, but having to make regular visits to the hospital after developing more severe symptoms such as a cough that persisted every time he breathed. He also mentions only being able to do minimal work and not having the strength to write updates for his blog during the past period. According to the blog post, the hospital could not find the cause of his symptoms at first, but after being introduced to a specialist, the author’s condition gradually began to improve. He now reports being in good health and approaching a “complete recovery” thanks to medication. Nasu attended the “Fate/Grand Order Fes. 2023 Summer festival: 8th Anniversary” event held at the end of July in Chiba, Japan and truly appears to be recovering.  

Additionally, in the Bamboo Broom Diary, the author describes boss BGM arrangements for Servant Summer Festival! 2023 as “godly” and reveals background details on how the release of Cnoc na Riabh came to be.
