Lollipop Chainsaw remake to be officially titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, release postponed to summer 2024

Dragami Games announced on August 11 that their currently in-development horror action game Lollipop Chainsaw Remake (working title) will be officially titled Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. They have also announced that the release of the title, which had been scheduled for 2023, has been postponed to the summer of 2024.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a present-day reimagining of the horror action game Lollipop Chainsaw released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Set in a high school on the West Coast of the United States, the game follows the protagonist Juliette, a zombie hunter, as she battles her zombie-turned classmates using a chainsaw as a weapon.

With Yoshimi Yasuda, CEO of Dragami Games having been the producer of the original game, Dragami Games obtained rights to the Lollipop Chainsaw IP from Kadokawa Games. Development of the new title is being handled by Yasuda and other members of the original development team, as well as Dragami Games’ staff. The original version’s executive director, Goichi Suda of Grasshopper Manufacture, and scenario writer James Gunn are not taking part in the development of the remake.

The title of the game has now been officially set to Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, while the release date has been moved to the summer of 2024. According to Dragami Games, development was being carried out having a 2023 release in mind, but it was decided that a longer development period was needed to ensure the best possible quality of the game.

It has been mentioned so far that some of the copyrighted songs used in the original version will be replaced with new songs, and that there is a possibility of shifting to more realistic visuals in the new title. In January this year, Yoshimi Yasuda commented that, looking back at the data from the original version, he found many things he thought could be improved on, such as the tempo being too slow or the baseball mini game being insufficiently balanced, all of which he is committed to fully correcting with the remake version (extreme).

Regarding the visuals, the heroine of the game Juliette appeared in the New Year’s greeting card posted by Dragami Games in January of this year. The artwork shows Juliette in the same pose as in the original version, but with a slightly different feel to her facial features (Related article). However, at this point, it is unclear whether or not this will be Juliette’s appearance in the new game. In the latest artwork (header image of this article), released together with this announcement, Juliette’s back is turned, and her face cannot be seen. It seems that the official unveiling has yet to come.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is scheduled for release in the summer of 2024. Supported platforms have not yet been announced.
