Tears of the Kingdom: Icy Meat was the key to zero-energy travel all along?
A The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player’s use of Icy Meat to create a zero-energy vehicle is gaining attention. The combination of the frozen meat’s slipperiness and the strange physics of elevator railings are what made the invention possible.
All manner of inventions are being created in Tears of the Kingdom, and the Redditors of r/HyruleEngineering in particular are consistently making new advancements. A vehicle recently posted in the subreddit has been gaining a lot of attention for how peculiar it is. The creator introduced their invention with the ostentatious title, “A New breakthrough in highly-advanced, super futuristic technology no one would have ever thought was possible.”
Reddit user Superruub61’s vehicle doesn’t require any energy and is set into motion when struck by a spear. Apparently, it can reach significant speeds without consuming Zonai energy or batteries.
The vehicle uses elevator railings from the Construct Factory and Right-leg Depot. The super lightweight and highly air-resistant material with mysterious physics has been a favorite material of the Hyrule engineers recently. (Related Article). One railing is placed horizontally and three more are added vertically, enclosing Link in a triangular shape. The vehicle is given power when Link launches a charged attack directed at the vertical railings with a spear.
The Icy Meat is placed at the bottom of the contraption, underneath the railings. Frozen materials in this game have the effect of making the ground slippery. An item such as Icy Meat doesn’t seem to have anything to do with vehicles at first glance but it seems to have unexpectedly become the key to zero-energy transport.
Reddit users were excited about the slightly barbaric yet revolutionary vehicle. The invention was praised for its sustainability and complete disregard for psychics, and jokes about beating one’s meat inevitably ensued. The fact that the vehicle is meat-powered is likely the main point of attraction for many.
Users were quick to notice the slippery properties of Icy Meat not long after the game’s release. For instance, fusing frozen meat with their shields to make shield-surfing even smoother. On a side note, our editorial team tried testing out a similar contraption using wooden boards, but as the wood was unable to withstand Link’s attack, the vehicle crumbled instead of launching, so if you want to make your own zero-energy vehicle, you will definitely need the elevator railings. They make a great pair with the Icy Meat as they can resist Link’s attacks. It’s interesting to see users make use of previous discoveries to develop new inventions.
This Icy Meat vehicle is another step in users’ continuous research regarding zero-energy vehicles (Related Article). As their research continues, many new discoveries can be expected.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
