Experience being shrunk and kept in a giantess’ drawer in this upcoming Japanese game

Indie game developer SAFE HAVN STUDIO released the first trailer for SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim on June 22. A demo of the game is scheduled to be released in August. The surreal setting and theme of the game has gathered significant attention from Japanese users, with a tweet introducing the game receiving over 10,000 retweets.

SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim is an all-ages adventure game about the lives of tiny people who have been shrunk by a young girl called Saeko. The protagonist of the game wakes up one day to find that they have been shrunk by Saeko to a mere few centimeters in height. They then encounter other people whose bodies have also been shrunk by Saeko. While spending time with these unique individuals inside Saeko’s desk drawer, they must think of choices that will help everyone to survive. The game tells the fate of Saeko and the people she has shrunk.

This game is described as a novel game, and the story seems to be presented in a point-and-click type format with the focus being on the text and graphics. Another element of the game is that the shrunken characters have parameters. The trailer reveals a scene in which the characters use Saeko’s hair clip to scrape at a ration to make it into a powder that they can eat. It is likely that the game will depict the harsh life of the shrunken people living inside the desk.

While confronting the situation, the protagonist is also Saeko’s talk partner. Based on screenshots and other information, it seems the player will be able to choose their own responses during the conversation such as “Yes,” “No,” “Why?” and similar. But even though the main character is free to respond, caution seems to be needed as the giantess Saeko can pose a threat. These dialogues with Saeko may be the key to controlling the fates of the shrunken people and Saeko herself.

Tweet translation: When you wake up, a giantess is looking down on you ―― SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim is a novel game about the life of Saeko, a girl with mysterious abilities, and the people she has shrunk. Development is currently underway for a demo release in the summer of 2023. Please look forward to it!
You find yourself only a few centimeters tall and having to spend your time in the drawer of a study desk. In there you find your others, who, like you, have been shrunk into Saeko, and are full of individuality. While killing time by chatting and sharing food with everyone, you ponder the choices you must make to ensure everyone’s survival.

The developer of this game, SAFE HAVN STUDIO, is a Tokyo-based indie game studio with a small team including members newkyp and koh. The game is based on a novel by Shizue Fuechi.

According to a tweet by newkyp, who does the planning/scenario, etc. for this game, a novel by Shizue Fuechi left a lasting impression on them more than ten years ago, when they had not even heard of the “giantess genre.” They began writing the scenario for this work using Shizue Fuechi’s character Saeko as the model. At first, they thought of replacing her with an original character, but were unable to create a more attractive character than Saeko, and thus went with the idea of creating a game that borrows her character. SAEKO: Giantess Dating Sim seems to take influences from the work of Shizue Fuechi while also being charged with the developer’s own sexual proclivities and fascinations.
