The Idolmaster Shiny Colors: Song for Prism announced for iOS and Android
Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced new iOS/Android game The Idolmaster Shiny Colors: Song for Prism. Recruitment of players to test the demo version of the game has also begun in Japan.
The Idolmaster Shiny Colors is an idol training game first released for web browsers in April 2018. In the game, the player takes on the role of a producer at 283 Production and manages a number of idols. As of April 2023, the game has 26 different idols that you can train.
In the brand-new game, The Idolmaster Shiny Colors: Song for Prism, all 26 idols now appear in 3D instead of 2D like they do in the original Shiny Colors. The game is separated into a producer part and a rhythm game part, with the producer part focusing on training the idols and their units.
The player creates a schedule for the idols, including times for lessons and work. Taking lessons will improve the stats of the idols as well as grant skills and production cards. The goal is to develop your unit while interacting with the idols.
After passing the final audition, you can view a “Memorial Concert” that looks back on the idols’ journey. The memories that you have created with your idols are shown as cutscenes during the live performance, and the content of these scenes will change depending on which idols you trained, which story events you witnessed, and the extent to which you trained your idols.
The rhythm game part is just how it sounds—you create a unit of idols that you have trained and play a rhythm game. In the footage that has been revealed, you can see four lanes of notes that you must tap with the correct timing to build up combos and aim for high scores. In the background of these stages, you can see your idols performing the song in full 3D. This mode includes five different difficulty levels, so players can choose the one that best fits their skill level.
It is possible to mix and match idols to create new units for performances, instead of being restricted to the existing idol units, and you can customize your idols, including their clothing, hair, and makeup. You are also able to view the performances as scenes without playing the rhythm game. As an aside, 283 Production office assistant Hazuki Nanakusa is also featured on cards in the game.
The Idolmaster Shiny Colors producer Yusuke Takayama appeared during the announcement broadcast for the new game and said that Song for Prism would run alongside the original Shiny Colors.
According to Takayama, The Idolmaster Shiny Colors offers deep one-on-one communication with the idols as well as the enjoyment of aiming to be the best in competitive concerts.
Song of Prism will, of course, include the production elements and usual interactions with the idols, but the focus will also be on the ability to watch the idols you have trained give brilliant live performances on stage while you play a rhythm game. You may think that the idol training aspects will be the same across both games, but it seems that the developers want them to be distinguished by how players interact with their idols in the end.
