Someone used GPT-4 to make an Isekai RPG with an AI game master
A user of OpenAI’s large-scale AI language model GPT-4 has utilized it as a game engine in order to create a chat-based Isekai RPG. The game has drawn attention for the way that the AI essentially acts as the game master via the chat.

Chat Reincarnation is a game where the player’s childhood friend has been reincarnated as a hero in a world of swords and sorcery. The player, who is still in the real world, uses the chat to provide advice to their friend in order to help her defeat the demon lord. GPT-4 acts as an AI game master and guides the player based on the world’s setting. The game could be described as a single-player tabletop RPG that can be enjoyed even without a real-life game master.
As the game uses GPT-4 via ChatGPT, anyone who wishes to play it must subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, the paid version of ChatGPT. ChatGPT Plus users need only to input the prompts included on Fukatsu’s blog post in order to start playing. The prompts are written almost as if they were instructions that would be explained to a human. At the end, the prompts also note that “All Input and output should be in Japanese.”
Players have complete control over how they wish to play Chat Reincarnation. Although the game prompts state that the heroine seeks modern technical knowledge from the player, it’s likely possible to expand a variety of rules, such as combining different magic and modern technology together. The game is also notable for the way the real-time chat with the characters increases the level of immersion, and there are already many posts on Twitter from players who have played and finished it.
Fukatsu is making use of the GPT series to make games one after another, and this month he also released Tokimeki of the Dead: Love Apocalypse, a romance survival game where you must live through a zombie apocalypse, and a Cthulhu Mythos survival game.
