Japan’s Ibaraki Prefecture promotes diversity with free browser game
The Diversity Promotion Center in Japan’s Ibaraki Prefecture has released a browser game that aims to deepen people’s understanding of diversity and inclusion. It is a short visual novel where players advance through story by solving quizzes. The game is available only in Japanese.
The protagonist’s friend has been kidnapped and taken to a planet ruled under a dictatorship where they do not accept people who are different from themselves. In order to save his friend, the protagonist must solve a variety of quizzes about diversity and inclusion, and about the culture and local specialties of Ibaraki Prefecture. Most of the quizzes comprise simple questions like “Which member of the family should do the housework?” and “What is the name of the famous waterfall in Ibaraki Prefecture?”
Ibaraki Prefecture is known for taking an active approach when it comes to policies related to diversity, inclusion, and the advancement of women in society. This quiz game forms part of the effort to further deepen people’s understanding of these subjects. The game was developed by MagicalRod, a studio based in Ibaraki Prefecture that is best known for porting titles such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms V and Uncharted Waters IV to smartphones.
