Konami’s murder mystery sim CRIMESIGHT gets a price cut as the player count dwindles

Konami Digital Entertainment has cut the price of CRIMESIGHT, which is now available on Steam, from $19.99 to $9.99. The game is also on sale for 20% off until November 14.

CRIMESIGHT is a Whodunnit type of game about preventing a murder from taking place and guessing who the would-be criminal is. There are 6 characters called “Pawns.” One is randomly designated the target, and another the villain. Players are then divided into 2 teams and put into a simulation. The goal of the villain team is to kill the target. To perform the kill, the villain must possess a weapon and be in the same area as the target where it’s not visible to anyone else.

The goal of the other team is to prevent the crime and guess the villain. If the target is still alive by the morning of the 4th day, the game moves to the final deduction phase. If a player unmasks the villain, they win. If the villain is not revealed, the game ends in a draw. It’s also possible to guess the villain before the last day, with a correct guess resulting in a win for the player.

It’s been around half a year since CRIMESIGHT initially released on Steam in April of this year. Konami explains that they dropped the price “In order to make it easier for all customers to enjoy our products.” From the text it sounds likely that Konami is aiming to secure enough players for the game.

CRIMESIGHT reached a peak player count of 555 players just after launching and has since been moving forward with a double-digit player count. While this number did see a boost in June after a major update and a free week, the player count has since dropped to peaking somewhere between 10 and 20 players this past month (SteamDB).

While the player count may be low, the gameplay itself has actually reviewed well with players. The game has received around 400 user reviews on Steam and sits at a rating of Very Positive. However, the multiplayer won’t be playable if there’s nobody around to play it with, so Konami is likely looking to draw in more players by dropping the price.
