Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle + Hell coming to Steam May 12

City Connection has announced that Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle + Hell is coming to Steam on May 12. The already available PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch releases of Ninja JaJaMaru Collection will also be getting a big 2.0 update on the same day.

Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle + Hell is the latest title in the popular Ninja JaJaMaru-Kun side-scrolling action series that was originally released by Jaleco in 1985, though it didn’t see a release in North America until the Wii Virtual Console in 2007. The upcoming Steam release takes Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle from the Ninja JaJaMaru Collection and adds a new mode along with other additional content.

Players take control of JaJaMaru and friends to clear stages of yokai. You’ll attack with shuriken and other weapons while gathering items by defeating enemies and destroying their footholds. There are over 20 characters with unique abilities that can be unlocked by collecting Jalecoins from defeated enemies. In addition, Jalecoins can be used to unlock more music and game documents (development materials).

The newly added Hell Mode is unlocked by collecting 10,000 Jalecoins. This new chapter lets players enjoy grand battles against even stronger yokai. Hell Mode also lets the heroes upgrade to Super JaJaMaru and Super BlueJaJa, with Super JaJaMaru excelling at close-range combat while Super BlueJaJa’s strength lies in long-ranged attacks.

The big 2.0 update coming to the Ninja JaJaMaru Collection will add Hell Mode to the Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle game contained within it. While the game has capped Jalecoins at 9,999 up to this point, after the update players will be able to unlock Hell Mode by collecting 10,000 Jalecoins. Normal mode is also being made easier by increasing experience for defeating enemies by 1.5x. Other additions include new music and the new character Mikado-Chan, the mascot for Mikado arcade.
