Kadokawa has announced Overload -Escape from Nazarick-, a 2D Metroidvania game based on the popular novel/anime series Overload. It is scheduled to come out in 2022 for PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch.

The game is being developed by ENGINES, a Japanese game studio founded by ex-SNK member Masanori Kusumoto and Yasushi Adachi. It will feature an original story overseen by the series’ creator Kugane Maruyama. It also seems to include scenes that anime fans can enjoy.

You will play as Clementine, a popular villain in the original series. Clementine wakes up in the Great Tomb of Nazarick and finds herself forced to participate in Ainz Ooal Gown’s brutal experiments. She is left there alone, unarmed, with most of her memories gone. Now she must defeat Ainz’s servants and try to escape from the tomb.

One of the key features in this game is the parkour system. Clementine can jump, slide, wall kick, and use her grappling hook to maneuver. A variety of weapons are available for her to use, including daggers, long swords, hammers, and more.

Her magic abilities will come in handy when progressing through the dungeons. For example, burning ivies with flames, and creating footholds with ice.

As you explore the tomb, you’ll discover Clementine’s memory fragments. Collect them and unravel the mysteries surrounding her current predicament.

Overload -Escape from Nazarick- is set to release on PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch in 2022. Season 4 of the anime series is scheduled to air in 2022 as well.
