The Hunter × Hunter manga series is known for entering frequent and long hiatuses due to author Togashi Yoshihiro’s health problems, so fans jump in delight whenever they see him posting about the next installment of the story. After posting several small manga-related updates (a completed inking here, a finished background designation document there), Togashi has teased that publication dates for Hunter x Hunter’s chapters 420 and onwards are due to be announced.
For those who might not know, Togashi’s wife is none other than Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi. The image crossover image he posted of Kurapika, Artemis, and Sailor Mars looks to be a personal illustration he made for his wife in appreciation for her continued support. Before any of you start speculating about the “4/17” written on Sailor Mars’ talisman, take note that the character’s birthday falls on April 17 and is likely not a hint about when more Hunter x Hunter news will be released.
Togashi ended his post with the hashtags “Artemis 2” and “Shining Theater.” The “Artemis 2” refers to NASA’s widely talked about ten-day lunar mission. During one of NASA’s streams, a Sailor Moon plushie of Artemis can be seen in the mission control room (source: Yahoo! News Japan), hence Togashi’s tribute. On the other hand, “Shining Theater” refers to Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -Shining Theater Shinagawa Tokyo-, an ongoing live show that is the successor to the unfortunately cancelled Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon -Shining Moon Tokyo- (the show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
While the comments section of Togashi’s post contains the usual stream of Hunter x Hunter fans, many fan posts applaud Togashi and Takeuchi’s supportive relationship. The two have been together for 27 years, after all, and have often contributed to each other’s projects.
