Former Yakuza studio director’s new cinematic action game Gang of Dragon looks exactly like what you’re imagining

Toshihiro Nagoshi has finally lifted the veil on his new project - a gritty action game called Gang of Dragon.

During The Game Awards 2025, Nagoshi Studio – the new game company founded by former Like a Dragon series developer Toshihiro Nagoshi – announced its debut title Gang of Dragon, set to release on Steam (additional platform announcements may follow).

Gang of Dragon is an action-adventure game set in Tokyo’s Shinjuku area, featuring famous locations such as the red-light district of Kabukicho. The story follows Shin Ji-Seong, portrayed by the iconic Ma Dong-Seok (The Outlaws, Train to Busan). Shin is a high-ranking member of a Kabukicho-based Korean crime syndicate, who becomes entangled in underworld conflicts. It seems the narrative will be a violent human drama focusing on human connections and Shin confronting his own sense of purpose.

Gamplay will revolve around melee third-person combat, centered on Shin’s physical power. It seems the game will include everything from hand-to-hand combat to blade and gun fights, as well as action involving vehicles. The newly unveiled announcement trailer depicts realistic environments modeled after the streets of Tokyo, including the famous Kabukicho Ichibangai Arch, giving off vibes Like a Dragon fans will be familiar with.
