Japanese entertainment company Sanrio, the kawaii powerhouse behind Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Cinamoroll and many other beloved characters, held their 65th annual shareholder’s meeting on June 26, 2025. Oddly enough, among the attendees was an 8-year-old elementary schooler. After other shareholders in attendance shared her exchange with Sanrio executives online the Japanese side of X was quite amused by the adorable and frankly impressive business idea she shared at the meeting.
– I am in the second grade of primary school. I love Hello Kitty. I want you to make a hotel around the Puroland or Harmonyland areas. The name should be Sanrio Kawaii Hotel. I want you to make it because I would be happy to be surrounded by the characters after I finishplaying [at the park]. I also want a big bath and a pool on the roof.
– It isn’t impossible! Please keep supporting us!
(Note: Puroland and Harmonyland are Sanrio’s official theme parks, located in Tokyo and Oita prefecture respectivelly. Puroland is also considered one of the most popular theme parks in Japan)
According to another post, the little girl had her speech printed on a piece of paper, and she tried her best to read everything correctly. The news went viral on X and other websites, with many users and Sanrio fans enamored by the idea of a Kawaii Hotel, acknowledging that it is, in fact, a great idea. Interestingly enough, while there are some Sanrio-themed rooms in different hotels across Japan, as of currently, there is no official Sanrio hotel, which, given how widespread Sanrio’s content is throughout all aspects of life in Japan, does come as a bit of a surprise.
Some X users were also shocked to hear that an 8-year-old can even own shares in a company. However, while some problems may rise when it comes to actual investments, there is no law in Japan that forbids minors from being company shareholders. A former Sanrio shareholder shared that they used to own the company’s shares as a family, and that included their newborn child. Being a Sanrio shareholder apparently comes with many perks as well. For example, on the day of the shareholder’s meeting, the shareholders have free entrance to the theme park – which may sound tempting to parents with small children.
