First announced in January, Steam-Heart’s Saturn Tribute’s and Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute’s Xbox One ports have been cancelled. While the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC versions are still set for their intended May 29 release dates, the Xbox One version in particular requires significant changes for it to be released on Microsoft’s console.
We have decided to cancel the release of the Xbox versions of Steam-Heart’s Saturn Tribute and Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute, which were scheduled for release on Thursday, May 29th.
Due to the nature of these games being revivals of works that contain provocative content, we have continued developing them to deliver a common gaming experience across multiple platforms. Although we have repeatedly been adjusting the games’ content to meet the various standards of each platform, we’ve come to the realization that some significant changes to the content of the Xbox version are necessary.
It was a difficult decision, but one we had to make. We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to the release of the Xbox version.
We hope to continue delivering our titles to you on each platform, including Xbox. We kindly ask for your understanding.

While Steam-Heart’s and Advanced Variable Geo are two very different games (the former is a bullet hell shooter, while the latter is a 2D fighting game), both were originally developed by Japanese company Technical Group Laboratory (TGL) and their adult game subsidiary Giga. As such, the two games contain eroge elements that include scantily-clad characters and erotic scenes, among other suggestive and explicit content. Considering the sensitive nature of the originals, it seems Microsoft required City Connection (the developers and publishers of the remasters) to apply more censorship to Steam-Heart’s Saturn Tribute and Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute than they were willing to.

Instead of heavily censoring a specific version of the games (as some game development studios do), City Connection made the hard decision to cancel the Xbox versions of its planned remasters instead. While the Xbox versions of Steam-Heart’s Saturn Tribute and Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute have been cancelled, City Connection promises to continue delivering similar gaming experiences for its upcoming games across all platforms.
Steam-Heart’s Saturn Tribute and Advanced Variable Geo Saturn Tribute are set to release on May 29 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam).
