Ghost in the Shell official account starts mysterious countdown, leaving fans hoping for new developments in the series

The official X account of the Ghost in the Shell series has made a series of posts that have fans hoping for some exciting new announcements in the franchise. As of February 1, the account has been posting short countdown clips, starting at 96 hours.

Since then, a total of five clips have been posted, with the latest (posted four hours ago) signaling that there’s only 48 hours to go until whatever the countdown is about is unveiled.

The clips feature various scenes from the Ghost in the Shell manga and its adaptations, overlapped with the symbol of The Laughing Man – an important figure that appears in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The timing of the countdown clips – February, coincide with the anniversary of The Laughing Man Incident that occurs in the story.

Last year, it was announced that a new Ghost in the Shell anime was in the works by Science Saru and Production I.G, slated to air in 2026. Information revealed at the time of the initial announcement was sparse, so Japanese fans speculate that we may be getting some new details or footage of the adaptation at the end of the countdown, although it remains to be seen what the big news is.
