New Gundam co-produced by Evangelion’s studio Khara rakes in 598 million yen in three days, taking top spot at box office
Bandai Namco Filmworks announced that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- has grossed 598 million yen and brought in over 352,000 viewers in the three days following its January 17 premiere. The film secured the No. 1 spot at the Japanese box office in its opening weekend.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- is a full-length film that compiles the early episodes of the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX TV anime series. The title is being co-produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks’ studio Sunrise and Hideaki Anno’s studio Khara, which is best known for the Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy. This is the first such collaboration in the Gundam franchises’ history.
To commemorate the film’s strong performance so far, the official Gundam YouTube Channel released a promo trailer featuring the theme song Plazma by Kenshi Yonezu. Beware that the video contains spoilers.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- has been confirmed for release on February 28 in North America (GKIDS), Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. The airing date of the TV anime series is TBA.
