Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced their new game PUI PUI MOLCAR Let’s! MOLCAR PARTY! for Nintendo Switch. It’s a party game based on the Japanese stop motion anime series PUI PUI MOLCAR which aired from January to March of this year. The game will come out on December 16 in Japan/Asia. The suggested retail price in Japan is 6,248 yen (tax included) which is approximately $56.00 USD.
The anime series aired earlier this year and became a surprise hit in Japan. Each episode is rather short (3 minutes per episode), but the animation is rich in details. Although the show is aimed at children, the story includes some black humor showcasing the idiotic nature of human beings. The star of the show is obviously the Molcars. They are intelligent guinea pigs who happen to also serve as human vehicles. They aren’t completely obedient though, sometimes they’ll act against human’s will. Molcars can also arm themselves with miniguns to fend off against hordes of zombies, if the need arises.
In the newly announced videogame PUI PUI MOLCAR Let’s! MOLCAR PARTY!, you get to control these adorable and fluffy Molcars and play a wide variety of minigames. 10 minigames to be exact. Minigames include dancing, cops and robbers, Rocket League-esque soccer, and more. Some of the minigames are based on events that took place in the anime series.
The game takes place in a town called Moltown, where Molcars were allured into after seeing a flyer advertising “lifetime supply of carrots.” Turns out, Moltown doesn’t offer any carrots. In fact, Moltown is nothing but a barren burg with empty streets. Now, Molcars must take it to themselves to transform the town into a flourishing urban hub and achieve their goal of “life with a limitless supply of carrots.”
As the town grows, more Molcars will flock. There are “over 40 Molcars for you to meet.” You can feed them and pet them as well.
Molcars are customizable with over 80 accessories for you to mix and match with. There are even headphones and party hats available for Molcars. Some of them seems to be based on the original anime, while others are “game-original accessories.” In the anime series, Molcars were able to turn themselves into an armed vehicle or Japanese Itasha (cars decorated with anime/manga characters), so I hope the game’s customization feature will enable the players to recreate the original, at least in some capacity.
PUI PUI MOLCAR Let’s! MOLCAR PARTY! is set to release on December 16 for Nintendo Switch in Japan. The standard edition and the deluxe edition are priced at 6,248 yen and 6,578 yen respectively (tax included). The latter comes with early unlocks for five accessories and a hairstyle.
