Square Enix made a surprise announcement during Nintendo Direct 9.23.2021 and released Actraiser Renaissance for Nintendo Switch/PlayStation 4/PC (via Steam)/iOS/Android.

Actraiser Renaissance marks the revival of 90’s classic 2D action/simulation game Actraiser released back in 1990. The original Actraiser is known for its unique combination of 2D platforming action and city-building in which you help human settlements to flourish.

The newly released game retains the original’s unique combination of two genres while remastering the graphics with higher resolution. In addition to new stories and expanded actions, “new action stages, an all-new realm, and new more powerful bosses” have been added. Brand new RTS gameplay segments were also added, where you work together with humans to protect settlements from enemy raids. With so many new features and contents added on, this is essentially a remake of the original.

There are “15 new music tracks, as well as re-arranged original tracks” by the original Actraiser composer Yuzo Koshiro. “Players can listen to the original music or switch to the re-arranged versions while playing the game.” Auto-save and difficulty settings have been added, so a wide range of players will be able to enjoy the game.

Actraiser Renaissance is available now on Nintendo Switch/PlayStation 4/PC (Steam)/iOS/Android.
