New Shadowverse title to introduce a 3D world and game-changing mechanics like Super Evolution
Cygames announced Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond for the PC/iOS/Android during the “Shadowverse NEXT 2024” stream held on December 10. The new title is scheduled for release in the summer of 2024. A teaser video and visuals have been revealed.
Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is a competitive online collectible card game that builds upon the original Shadowverse digital card game released by Cygames in 2016 with new mechanics such as “Super Evolution.” Shadowverse gameplay consists of creating card decks and competing 1 on 1 against the CPU or other players. The original title includes over 4000 beautifully illustrated cards, with the latest Order Shift pack being the 30th card pack to be added to the title. The game topped 30 million downloads as of March 2023 and has also been adapted into an anime TV series and physical card game.
The upcoming Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond will incorporate new gameplay features while maintaining the same basic rules related to deck building and card types. One of the new mechanics revealed is Super Evolution, which can be performed from the second player’s 6th turn/first player’s 7th turn onwards. With Super Evolution, up to 2 of the player’s remaining EP will be turned into SEP (super evolution points), which can be used to super-evolve a follower.
The new title will also make changes to card classes – while the original Shadowverse had 9 different classes including Neutral, Worlds Beyond will have 8 classes – combining the Shadowcraft and Bloodcraft classes into the new “Abysscraft” class. The official site also mentions Super-Evolve abilities and other new battle abilities and rules.
As for new characters in Shadowverse Worlds Beyond, two of the new main characters, Dreizehn (Portalcraft class) and Lovesign (Forestcraft class) have been revealed so far. They will be making an appearance in the main story alongside other new characters.
Shadowverse Worlds Beyond will also introduce a world feature – meaning that aside from card battles, players will be able to create and dress up their own avatars and interact in a 3D virtual space. According to the revealed images, mini games such as Mahjong and fishing will be available.
With the release of Shadowverse Worlds Beyond, all competitive events will shift to the new game. The “Shadowverse WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP” is scheduled to be held in early 2025 as a new international tournament to replace the “Shadowverse World Grand Prix” and “Shadowverse Invitational”. It will be an invitation-only tournament, and the winner will be awarded 10 million yen in prize money.
Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is planned for release in the summer of 2024 for the PC/iOS/Android.
