The House in Fata Morgana tops 100,000 sales on Steam, developers express gratitude to international players
Japanese developer NOVECT (formerly Novectacle) reported on November 22 that The House in Fata Morgana has topped 100,000 copies sold on Steam alone. Keika Hanada of NOVECT extended words of gratitude to international fans and to the efforts of the translators who worked on the title.
The House in Fata Morgana is a full-length suspense visual novel game in which the player investigates the mystery of a mansion, witnessing tragedies that occurred in different time periods involving different characters. The game was first released at Comiket 83 at the end of 2012, and a Steam version followed in May 2016.
Ever since its release, The House in Fata Morgana has received high acclaim for its content from players worldwide. At the time of writing, the title has an Overwhelmingly Positive status out of 3,398 reviews on Steam, while the Nintendo Switch version of the game has a meta score of 96 and a user score of 8.6 on Metacritic. The game is currently available in 7 languages, including English, French, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Korean.
Recently, The House in Fata Morgana surpassed 100,000 units sold, but in Steam sales alone, which the developers consider a special milestone. It’s been 7 years since the game released, but it seems that the game had its rocky periods, as the developer Keika Hanada states in a Pixiv Fanbox post, “To be honest, it wasn’t an instant success. There were many months when sales didn’t even hit a hundred copies, and I felt apologetic to MangaGamer for not living up to their efforts in translating such a lengthy work.” However, the game started rising in popularity over the years as players helped spread word about the game and users volunteered to translate it into various languages.
Hanada prefaced the announcement by saying that they were hesitant to reveal sales figures, as they consider that numbers can skew peoples’ perception of the game, but that they ultimately decided to celebrate the milestone, as it could not have been achieved without the support of players worldwide, translators and publishers. NOVECT are currently working on a project tentatively named “M.”
The House in Fata Morgana is currently available for the PC (Steam), PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. It will be 35% off on Steam until November 29.
