Super realistic Japanese UE5 survival horror game announced, trailer looks almost live-action

Japanese developer NIHIL INANE STUDIO announced LOST FRAGMENT on August 30. The upcoming title, which uses Unreal Engine 5, has all eyes on it for its eerily realistic visuals, with the trailer video gathering significant attention.

Lost Fragment is a survival horror game. The gameplay that can be seen in the video is set in a derelict hospital, which appears to be a Japanese hospital based on signs in Japanese that can be seen. The video is shown from a first-person perspective, with the protagonist walking exploring the inside of the hospital with a gun in their hand. In the second half of the video, the mood in the game changes drastically, with darkness enveloping the scene and disturbing noises being audible in the surrounding. The video ends with the nervous protagonist trying to discover the identity of whatever was emitting the sounds.

The chilling clip seems to have attracted the attention of the community as soon as it was released, making people eager to find out more about the project. The developer, NIHIL INANE STUDIO, is a mysterious studio that has yet to reveal anything except for the fact that they’re based in Osaka, Japan. The impressively realistic trailer that was released out of nowhere has many in anticipation.

Additionally, in response to a user’s question, the developer revealed that Lost Fragment does not use any photogrammetry (technology that generates 3D representations of objects from photographs). Everything is, as the developer says, made by hand, which would include all the small items and detailed assets and rooms that appear in the video. The trailer also shows attention to detail in the sound, such as the sound of the character stepping on glass.

Lost Fragment is being developed with Unreal Engine 5. More information about the game will be revealed as development progresses. Those interested in updates may refer to the NIHIL INANE STUDIO official X/Twitter account.
