Love Live! School Idol Festival to end service after nearly 10 years

KLab has announced that smartphone game Love Live! School Idol Festival will end service at 16:00 on March 31, 2023 (JST).

Love Live! School Idol Festival is a free-to-play rhythm game based on the Love Live! multimedia series. It was first released in Japan in 2013 before a global launch followed in 2014. The game includes a Live mode, where you play a rhythm game that involves tapping icons in time with a wide variety of songs, and a Story mode, where you can follow the stories of each idol member. You are also able to train the idols that you collect through the gacha system or events.

The game proved to be a major hit as a rhythm game that made use of idol anime IP and is notable for including almost every song from Love Live! and Love Live! Sunshine!! As of October 31, 2022, the game had reached 53 million users worldwide, and it can be said that it played a part in making the Love Live! IP more well known.

It has been almost 10 years since the game was first released, which is quite a long time for a mobile game. A spin-off title called Love Live! School Idol Festival All Stars was also released for mobile, and a sequel for iOS and Android called Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 MIRACLE LIVE! was announced last September.

Along with the end of service announcement, the official Twitter Account for Love Live! School Idol Festival also posted a message saying that they will continue to deliver a fun experience to fans with Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 MIRACLE LIVE! The first live broadcast for the sequel is scheduled for February 2 (JST) and will include an important announcement.
