Soon after you find yourself in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, you will encounter The Girl – Resident Evil Requiem’s unkillable, roaming monster. Grace Ashcroft isn’t as skilled at handling biohazard threats as Leon (at least not yet), so your best bet during this introduction is to avoid her while you find a way to open a fuse-locked gate.

Pick up Empty Bottles and listen to what the book has to say
Before encountering The Girl, be sure to pick up any Empty Bottles scattered around the area (you’ll find at least one in the cabinet in the typewriter save room). There is also a book titled “Shadow Ghost” in the unlit children’s room beside the room with a typewriter. According to legend, the Shadow Ghost stalks people silently in the darkness while avoiding the light. This clue is important for all of your encounters with the Girl and teaches you to stay in the light to avoid getting your head chewed off.

Searching the room further reveals a clue about the location of a screwdriver you will need to obtain the fuse to progress forward. Now that you know the item is in the Nurses’ Station, it’s time to backtrack your way to the door marked “Prep Room” opposite the operating room where Grace first woke up.

Quickly turn around and head into the light once the Girl enters the playing field
Going inside the Prep Room will trigger a cutscene that will scare the pants off you and introduce the Girl as a roaming entity. After pulling your pants back up, quickly turn around and head to the safety of the operating room. The Girl’s skin will visibly burn, and she will jump into the ceiling above.

Head back into the Nurses’ Station and grab the screwdriver
Take this opportunity to head back to the Prep Room and into the Nurses’ Station proper. You’ll need to move a trolley to progress, but this will cause the tray on it to fall and alert the Girl to your location. Quickly hide under the pile of clutter next to you and wait for her to pass by. She will sniff around and even toss some of the clutter you’re hiding under, but as long as you keep still, the Girl will eventually grow tired and search somewhere else.

Instead of searching the locker that the trolley was blocking, jump onto the trolley and look to your right. A big, red toolbox lies within reach, and in it, a screwdriver.

You’ll need the screwdriver to open the fuse box in the typewriter room, but as you return, the Girl will bust through a door and block your path once more. Return to the safety of the operating room’s light and wait for her to leave before making another attempt.

Use Empty Bottles to distract the Girl and keep her away from the typewriter room
This is where the encounter opens up a bit. Given that the Girl can spawn from any of the open holes in the ceiling, she will almost always find a way to block your path to the typewriter room. Using those Empty Bottles you found, distract her and lead her into investigating an area that leaves you with a clear path to your goal. Since the Nurses’ Station is off to a corner, consider tossing a bottle there and waiting for the Girl to pass by.
Now that you’re in the clear, you are free to use the screwdriver to get the fuse and open the locked gate. Obtaining the fuse will cause the Girl to chase you, but provided you know where you’re going (it’s just a right from the typewriter room), it shouldn’t be that much of a run before you reach the gate.
While this encounter is short, it teaches you how to avoid the Girl as Grace. Stay in the light whenever possible and find ways to circle the enemy without drawing attention to yourself. Future encounters lean more toward your favor, but it’s always good to remember the basics.
Resident Evil Requiem is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows (Steam).
