Resident Evil Requiem: How to defeat the Chunk boss as Leon

A detailed guide to beating the Chunk boss as Leon in Resident Evil Requiem.

After defeating (or eluding) your first Chunk as Grace Ashcroft in Resident Evil Requiem, it feels liberating to take one on head-to-head as Leon Kennedy. Leon’s first official encounter with this hulking behemoth is a boss fight, but luckily, he is more experienced and well-equipped than his fellow survivor.

Grab the MSBG 500 Shotgun

Before the fight starts, be sure to pick up the MSBG 500 Shotgun off the corpse that the Chunk is snacking on. With it, you’ll be able to deal maximum damage to its head, which is its weak point. Dotted around the area are several ammo pickups for your pistol and shotgun, which you can use when your reserves are running low.

Trap the Chunk in doorways to slow its movements

Just like with Grace’s first encounter with a Chunk, the monster’s large frame limits its movements, particularly in tight spaces. Lure the Chunk into doorways so you can temporarily immobilize it. Once it’s stuck, unload all of your ammunition into its head. The Chunk will eventually break through, but these doorways (there are two of them) are a good way to trap it and deal damage without worrying about your accuracy.

Use your guns and hatchet when the Chunk falls down

The Chunk will occasionally fall on its face after receiving enough damage. While the game wants you to go in for a powerful melee strike, use this opportunity to deal some extra damage with your guns before capping off with a hatchet to its face.

Broken walls and scaffolding will reveal new pathways and extra goodies

If you’re finding yourself low on supplies (or just want a change of scenery), you can lure the Chunk into breaking the weak walls and scaffolding around the arena. Broken walls hide ammo and health items. Broken scaffolding reveals ladders that can be climbed, which lead to more items and high vantage points.

These supplies and areas will become inaccessible after the boss fight if the Chunk does not break them, so be sure to explore the area and get it to wreak as much havoc as possible.

You’ll know you’ve defeated the Chunk once it starts to deflate and shouts incoherent curses at you. After it explodes, be sure to pick up the two Hand Grenades from its body that you could have used during this boss fight.

Resident Evil Requiem is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows (Steam).
