Monster Hunter Wilds: Three important uses of the Seikret

Tips on how to make the best of Seikret, your trusty feathered companion in Monster Hunter Wilds, beyond just a simple mount.

Next to your trusty Palico and handler Alma, your Seikret is a helpful companion whose quick feet, strong back, and knowledge of the Forbidden Lands will aid you in your Monster Hunter Wilds quests. But while your Seikret’s main directive is to carry you to your next objective, there is more to this fine feathered friend than meets the eye. Here are three important uses of the Seikret:

Seikret gathering

The Seikret is your personal taxi

Getting the obvious use out of the way: the Seikret will always make a beeline for your quarry or chosen waypoint when you turn on Auto-move. The mechanic can be a godsend when navigating Monster Hunter Wilds’ large maps (it isn’t the best when you want more precise Seikret controls, however). The maps aren’t as complex as those found in Monster Hunter World, but some routes are hard to spot and can only be accessed via Seikret.

Turning on Auto-move while on your Seikret frees you up to perform other actions like sharpening your weapon and entering Focus mode to pick up nearby objects. Whereas past Monster Hunter games required you to dedicate time or resources for these actions, Monster Hunter Wilds lets you do these things while en route to your next objective.

Seikret pouch

The Seikret has some useful items and weapons in its pouches

Speaking of useful items, Alma packs your Seikret pouch with several First-Aid Meds, Rations, and other helpful supplies at the start of each quest. These items get restocked as a quest goes on, potentially making things easier for you and your party. Accessing the pouch is as easy as mounting your Seikret and pressing the Seikret Pouch input.

Your Seikret also has enough carrying capacity for one extra weapon – allowing you to switch between two damage-dealing munitions in the middle of a quest. While some players prefer to stick with a single weapon (as was the norm in past Monster Hunter games), it is useful to know the movesets of at least two weapons so that you can adapt to different situations. As with the Seikret Pouch, swapping between weapons during a quest can only be done while on your Seikret.

Seikret repositioning

Quick repositioning during a battle is a Seikret specialty

As much as it likes parking on the outskirts of a battle, your Seikret will always come to your rescue whenever you call for it – making it a great repositioning tool. Monster attacks like those from an Arkveld or Jin Dahaad can cover a wide area, so it is in your best interest to hop on your Seikret and get to safety when you see them coming.

One of the best things about the Seikret is that you can call it after getting attacked or towards the end of a long animation – potentially canceling the downtime of some actions. Try calling your Seikret when you get knocked down by a monster attack or after performing a Superman Dive. You’ll find that your Seikret will make you more mobile.

As with many Monster Hunter Wilds features, the Seikret helps cut down on the tedium of past games. Monster Hunter newcomers will easily adapt to its inclusion, while veterans will learn to love the advantages it brings.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
