Monster Hunter Wilds: How to switch between female and male armors/clothes

Step-by-step guide on how to navigate Monster Hunter Wilds detailed clothing and armor options, including switching between male and female gear.

One of Monster Hunter Wilds’ new features is the ability for players to create and equip whichever clothes or armor they desire, regardless of their character’s gender. While many players would like to cross-dress, the game doesn’t explicitly show you how. Here’s a quick guide on how to change your clothes (the stuff you wear under your armor) and your armor (the stuff over your clothes that will protect you from monster attacks):

Change different pieces of clothing in the character creator

From the character creator menu or the “Change Appearance” tab in your main camp Tent or Pop-up camps, select “Hunter” and then “Clothing.” Pre-made clothing types for male and female hunters will be available under “Clothing Type,” but if you want to get more experimental, choose the “(Detailed Settings)” option below.

Opening “(Detailed Settings)” unleashes a plethora of options to choose from. You can individually adjust the clothing type for the chest, arms, waist, and legs, as well as their corresponding colors. Each clothing type has four options as of present, so feel free to go wild and make something strange like an outcast from Wakanda.

The “Underclothes” section found right below “Clothing” doesn’t have as many options and is just an unflattering set of pajamas. You can change the color of your undershirt and tights, but no amount of customization will make your character look cool. The appearance of your underclothes is hidden by default and it’s probably for the best that you leave it that way. There are some instances in the main story where your character wears nothing but their underclothes, so try to make yourself presentable to the locals.

Swapping armors remains the same as in previous Monster Hunter entries

Each piece of armor in Monster Hunter Wilds has a male and female variant which you can craft at the Smithy. Armor pieces have the same stats regardless of whether you are wearing the male or female version, so feel free to choose which one fits your character best.

To change your armor, go inside your main camp tent or Pop-up camp and choose “Change Equipment.” Five armor slots can be found under your first two weapon slots, which will allow you to swap different pieces of armor. Keep in mind the strengths and weaknesses of the monster you are hunting and wear the appropriate armor.

Should you wish to hide your helmet in certain situations, Monster Hunter Wilds has options that hide your helmet during gameplay and cutscenes without removing its associated buffs. Various armor transmog options are also available.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
