Monster Hunter Wilds: How to get the Street Fighter 6 armor sets

Here's how to get your hands on Monster Hunter Wild's new Akuma α and Blanka-Chan α armor sets, step-by-step.

Unlike Monster Hunter Wilds’ Event Quests that can be picked up from any camp, Alma the Handler, or Lotta in the Grand Hub, the new Street Fighter 6 update makes you jump through several hoops to get the new Akuma α and Blanka-Chan α armor sets. It involves completing a new side mission, finding Akuma to become his pupil, and hunting a lot of Tempered Ajarakans. Here’s a step-by-step guide to completing all the tasks so you can get to punching monsters in the face

1. Reach Hunter Rank (HR) 21 and talk to Quinn in Oilwell Basin

To start the “Ultimate Strength” side mission that unlocks the Akuma α and Blanka-Chan α armor sets for crafting, talk to the NPC Quinn at the village of Azuz in the scorching Oilwell Basin. Found near the Smelting Foundry, Quinn will tell you that local monsters are being found dead without explanation. You will then need to explore the middle and upper strata of the Oilwell Basin to find clues to the mystery. While you can talk to the people of Azuz, this secondary objective only provides context for the side mission.

Exploring areas 5 and 11 of the Oilwell Basin (using your map and placing a waypoint will allow your Seikret to quickly take you to these areas) will uncover the corpses of a Tempered Rathian and Tempered Gypceros respectively. Once you’ve completed these objectives, head back to Azuz and speak with Maki (she’s in the area just above the Everforge). She’ll tell you about the person who took down the monsters and how they can be found in the lowest part of the Subterrane.

2. Meet with Akuma in the Oilwell Basin

It’s time to meet with the man himself. Make your way to the lowest stratum of the Oilwell Basin and look for an unnumbered area filled with Nitroshrooms. You’ll know you’re close when you start hearing someone punching a solid wall. Climb up to the area and you’ll come face to face with Akuma.

Talking with Akuma will result in your Hunter taking a swift beatdown from him. The Raging Demon will comment on your lack of strength and set you on a quest to eliminate a Tempered Ajarakan. Head to the Grand Hub and talk to Ricardo to start the “Demonic Strength” Arena Quest.

3. Complete the Demonic Strength Arena Quest and return to Akuma

The catch of the Demonic Strength quest is that you must complete it using a preset Akuma α armor set loadout. While you have six weapons to choose from, all of them deal the same damage (thus incentivizing the use of the Akuma α armor set’s unique moves). You’ll be fighting a Tempered Ajarakan as Akuma, so take this opportunity to become familiar with the Assisted Combo: Akuma item, Gohadoken, Goshoryuken, and Drive Impact gestures. You can also use the preset Monster Hunter Wilds weapons, but where’s the fun in that?

As a Fire-type monster, the Ajarakan is immune to Fire attacks and weak to Water attacks (it is also equally susceptible to Poison, Stun, Paralysis, Sleep, Blastblight, and Exhaust). The monster’s moveset is quite telegraphed, making it an optimal starting point for your punching journey. While the Ajarakan’s moves are easy to spot, they can hit quite hard. Make sure to use your standard rolls, Superman dodges, and the Assisted Combo: Akuma item’s unique dodge animation to avoid the Ajarakan’s rapid tackles, punches, rock throws, and lava spews. The Ajarakan also has a rather nasty grab attack, so be on the lookout for that as well.

Once you’ve completed the Demonic Strength quest, return to Akuma in the Oilwell Basin to complete the Ultimate Strength side mission. You will be given a new “True Strength” Arena Quest as well as the ability to craft the new Akuma α armor set for your hunter and the Blanka-Chan α armor set for your Palico.

4. Farm SF6 tickets and Tempered Ajarakan parts to craft the Street Fighter 6 armors

You need five SF6 Tickets, three Ajarakan Scale+, one Ajarakan Jewel+, and 25,000z (Monster Hunter Wilds’ in-game currency) to craft the Akuma α armor set. You will also need two SF6 Tickets, two Ajarakan Scale+, and 3,600z to craft the Blanka-Chan α armor set. In total, that’s seven SF6 Tickets, five Ajarakan Scale+, one Ajarakan Jewel+, and 28,600z.

To get SF6 Tickets, you will need to complete either the Demonic Strength or Ultimate Strength Arena Quests, both of which have you fighting a single Tempered Ajarakan using the Akuma α armor set and preset weapons. While Ultimate Strength is tougher, the quest allows for up to two players to take on the Tempered Ajarakan. In addition to SF6 Tickets, completing either quest rewards you with a good amount of money and Tempered Ajarakan parts which you can use to craft the armor sets.

Upon getting the required crafting materials and money, head over to Gemma the blacksmith and she’ll happily craft you the Akuma α and Blanka-Chan armor sets. As with all armor sets with layered variants, you are free to change the colors of both Akuma and Blanka-Chan as you see fit. While you cannot transmog layered armor pieces over them, feel free to color your Akuma and Blanka-chan as you see fit.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
