Monster Hunter Wilds’ Arch-Tempered Uth Duna quest lets players race against time for more nifty pendants

Tips and general info about Monster Hunter Wilds' latest free challenge quest "The Daunting Downpour."

The race is on once again as Monster Hunter Wilds’ new “The Daunting Downpour” Free Challenge Quest has players competing for the shortest completion times possible. This Hunter Rank (HR) 50 minimum requirement quest takes place in the Scarlet Forest, where an Arch-Tempered Uth Duna runs rampant.

As with previous Free Challenge Quests, The Daunting Downpour allows players to complete the hunt with whatever equipment they wish. They’ll need all the help they can get, as the Arch-Tempered Uth Duna hits harder and boasts more health than the regular and Tempered variants.

Arch-Tempered Uth

A Water-element Leviathan, the Arch-Tempered Uth Duna is resistant to Water damage and inflicts Waterblight, which slows stamina recovery. Be sure to bring enough Nulberries to counter the effects of Waterblight and keep an eye out for its attacks.

Unlike Mizutsune’s water beam and water spray moves, which are clear-cut water attacks, Uth Duna loves to dive in and out of bodies of water. Thanks to the monster’s large size, it is easy to predict when Uth Duna is about to do a belly flop or call in waves of water to flood the area.

Adjusting the field of view in the game’s settings will allow you to deal with Uth Duna’s more unpredictable movements on land. It will occasionally swipe with its tail and arms, as well as bite at you, depending on your relative location to it. Uth Duna may also charge at its target if it is out of reach, so be ready to dodge to the side to avoid any collateral damage.

Save for Water-based damage, all other types of attacks should work well against an Arch-Tempered Uth Duna. It is equally susceptible to Poison, Paralysis, Sleep, Blast, and Exhaust, but is more resistant to Stun. As such, you may not want to use a Hammer or Hunting Horn against it.

Simply participating in The Daunting Downpour will award you with a pendant, with up to two extra pendants being awarded for better times. You’ll get an “A” rank for finishing the Free Challenge Quest within 14 minutes, a “B” rank for 20 minutes, and a “C” rank for 50 minutes. The pendants will be distributed at a later date, once all times have been tallied.

The Daunting Downpour Free Challenge Quest runs until August 11, 2025 at 11:59 pm UTC. Monster Hunter Wilds is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
